The Story
25 Years in the Making
In 2001, a 16-year-old in Fort Wayne built his first website and got hooked. That curiosity turned into a freelance career by 2005, a marketing agency by 2011, and eventually BRANDERMIND in 2019. Along the way, one question kept driving the work: why do most small business websites look the same and perform the same?
Over 25 years, Rick Butts built 250+ websites, ran a concert venue, promoted shows for national touring acts, partnered with the Better Business Bureau as a white-label agency, and built RotoHeat into a brand with millions of organic views on YouTube and millions of visitors on the website. Along the way, he helped clients earn millions of dollars in revenue and tens of millions in organic traffic. Each phase shaped how he thinks about what businesses actually need from the web: a site that generates leads and builds trust.
In 2025, Rick made a deliberate choice to leave WordPress behind entirely and build exclusively with Next.js and AI. BRANDERMIND builds high-performance sites for businesses that have been underserved by template builders and page-builder plugins. Rick has been building websites since 2001 - over 25 years of designing, developing, and figuring out what actually makes a business grow online. He has built 250+ sites across industries including healthcare, manufacturing, and entertainment.
Before going all-in on web development, Rick spent years in the promotions and entertainment industry, working on shows for artists like Barry Manilow, Jeff Dunham, and Shinedown. He even owned a small concert venue called The Chameleon. That background taught him marketing and business thinking that most developers lack.
From 2019 to 2025, Rick served as a white-label agency partner for the Northern Indiana Better Business Bureau. He also built and ran RotoHeat, growing it to millions of organic views on YouTube and millions of website visitors. Across all his clients, he has helped generate millions in revenue and tens of millions in organic traffic. Today, he leads every BRANDERMIND project personally. No project managers, no hand-offs. You work directly with the person writing the code and making the decisions.

The Next.js Evolution
Discontinued WordPress development entirely and moved to Next.js full-time. After 250+ sites built over 25 years, this was a deliberate move toward faster builds and AI-native architecture.
